What is LED light therapy?

LED light therapy is a form of skincare that uses various wavelengths of light to stimulate the production of certain substances that contribute to healthy skin, including collagen and elastin.

How does it work?

Different wavelengths of light will enter the skin at different depths, kickstarting natural biological processes to help the skin heal, and begin repairing targeted areas. Light closer to the blue end of the spectrum is used as a depressant to slow down the production of skin oils, which when produced in excessive quantities, can contribute to acne and inflammation.

Light more on the red end of the spectrum stimulates cells responsible for collagen production, creating an anti-aging effect. This production of collagen helps reduce wrinkles, fine lines and helps the skin heal acne scars, stretch marks and sun damage. This light therapy is UV free, suitable for regular use and it is safe for all skin types.

When will I see results?

Typically LED treatments will last about ten to fifteen minutes, and it is possible to see positive, although minor, results from the first session when done from a professional skincare provider, but you are more likely to see results after multiple sessions. These sessions should be evenly spaced apart, with the best and more noticeable results appearing after the completion of all the recommended sessions. These results, however, will be non-permanent, so it’s advisable to go back for maintenance treatments after a couple of months, or as recommended by your skincare provider.
