Pigmentation therapy

Also known as IPL, pigmentation therapy is a laser treatment that targets redness, and uneven skin textures/tones. The lasers break down uneven pigments under the skin into smaller particles, which then rise up to the surface of the skin, and flake away with dead skin cells and debris, as part of the skin’s natural healing process.

Benefits of pigmentation therapy include:

  • A radiant glow on the skin
  • Improvement in cases of hyperpigmentation
  • Safe and cost effective
  • Smooths skin and reduces pore size
  • Effective in controlling acne
  • Minimal discomfort, and minimal recovery

FAQs

Can pigmentation be removed?

IPL, or pigmentation therapy, is ideal for removing unwanted pigments found in the skin, such as sun spots, age spots, or freckles. IPL is suitable for removing up to 80% of all unwanted pigmentation. In theory, this removal is permanent, but it may need touching up if there is long term exposure to the sun.

How long does pigmentation take to fade?

Naturally, pigmentation will fully fade within three to twenty four months, depending on the severity. However, with pigmentation therapy, that same pigment will instead fade in four to six weeks, depending on the regularity of the treatment.

Is pigmentation therapy painful?

There may be some slight discomfort caused by the heat of the laser, but pigmentation therapy is generally considered to be painless. As a non-invasive procedure, pigmentation therapy doesn’t carry the same risk of pain as it doesn’t involve breaking through the skin, or chemical reactions, in any way.

What are the immediate effects of pigmentation therapy?

Immediately after your pigmentation therapy, you may notice some redness around the targeted areas, as well as darkening of some of your unwanted pigment. This is completely normal. The redness should go away quickly, and the pigmentation will begin to lighten within a week or two, as it breaks up, gets closer to the surface, and falls out naturally.
